Located along Lake Michigan in the town of Belgium, WI, Forest Beach Migratory Preserve is 116 acres. Once a golf course slated for development, the preserve was instead protected and is in the process of being restored to be a hub for migratory birds along the Lake Michigan coast. Today, the preserve hosts a “patchwork quilt” of habitats that support birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and other wildlife. Visit the preserves to see hardwood forest, ephemeral (seasonal) ponds, open prairie, a partially wooded ravine leading to the beach, and constructed wetland ponds managed to provide habitat for a diversity of bird species, all with unique habitat needs. The location of this incredible property lends itself to supporting migratory birds along the Lake Michigan Flyway. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy catching sight of the many avian species that migrate through the preserve. A viewing platform offers views of Lake Michigan and a chance to spot birds moving north and south along the coast. A mowed 2.71-mile trail system invites visitors to meander through the preserve.

To visit, park in the large gravel parking lot on Country Club Beach Road that can accommodate many visitors at this popular site.
