Green Heron Wetlands (formerly Newark Lore) is 114 acres located west of Green Lake in the Town of Farmington. The preserve is in the Milwaukee River Watershed and contains a portion of the Sandy Knoll Swamp. Previously used as a campground, Restoring Lands is now preserving the ecological health and wildlife habitat of the Milwaukee River watershed, which benefits native plant and animal communities while improving water quality. Low-impact access to the property minimizes disturbance to the natural areas and increases the health of natural diversity. There are no trails on this preserve, but there is a flat access lane (0.45-miles long) for users with limited mobility. Please be sensitive of the ecological communities that thrive here by treading lightly. Keep dogs on leash at all times.
Green Heron Wetlands has MANAGED ACCESS hunting regulations. Please see the Hunting Page for more details. View the Green Heron Wetlands Hunting Map here.
This preserve was formerly known as Newark Lore. To visit, park in the gravel area off Indian Lore Rd. 1000’ north of Newark Rd. at the northwest corner of the preserve.
