Located in both the Village of Saukville and the Town of Grafton, Kurtz Woods is 45 acres and contains the Kurtz Woods State Natural Area, known to be one of the best examples of southern mesic forest left in the county. Follow a mile of trail through the rolling kettle topography of the woods and have a chance to see over 100 species of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. An assortment of spring wildflowers carpet the forest floor including hepatica, bloodroot, Dutchman’s breeches, and the aptly named spring beauty. The preserve has also been inducted into the Old Growth Forest Network due to the old growth nature of the forest relative to other forests in the region. Kettle depressions and glacial boulders can be seen throughout the preserve.
There is NO HUNTING allowed on this preserve. To respect and protect the sensitive plant and animal communities that thrive here, please keep dogs on leash at all times.
To access the preserve, park along Dahlia Ln. and follow the trail indicated on the south side of the residence at 1211 Dahlia Ln. Please respectful of neighbors, as this is a residential area.
