Located in Port Washington, the Sauk Creek Nature Preserve is 27 acres and was the first property purchased by the Ozaukee Land Trust in 1994. Sauk Creek runs north and south over limestone bedrock ledges and eventually flows into Lake Michigan near the Port Washington Marina. Floodplain forest runs along Sauk Creek and a series of wetland/spring seeps discharge water into the creek. Higher land on the eastern half of the property is predominately old agricultural fields, abandoned over 30 years ago and now being colonized by early successional trees and shrubs. More than a mile of trails connect the preserve to local neighborhoods, and a bridge allows easy access to the creek. The land is a valuable wildlife corridor and an outstanding resource for community education and recreation.
There is NO HUNTING allowed at Sauk Creek Nature Preserve. To respect and protect the sensitive plant and animal communities that thrive here, please keep dogs on leash at all times.
There are three trail access points to the preserve. Park along W. Walters St. or N. Grant St. to enter from the north. To access the preserve from the south, park along Moore Rd. or N. Sauk Dr. There is no parking lot, but there is a pull-off along Moore Rd.
