Located along the Milwaukee River estuary in the city of Milwaukee, Turtle Park is 4 acres and home to our Milwaukee Office. This preserve is a transition between the hardscape of the downtown Riverwalk and the 800-acre natural river valley of the Milwaukee River Greenway. The southern entrance to the Greenway, Turtle Park has become a destination for greater public access to the river and its adjacent greenspaces. It features the Kiwanis Landing boat launch, a bouncy yoga pad, countless species of insects and wildlife, bike parking, great fishing spots, and a lush native prairie.
Turtle Park was most recently home to a mystery dinner theatre shaped like an old riverboat. By the time the land trust acquired the land, the restaurant had gone out of business and the building was demolished. Over many years, we’ve worked hard to restore the land to both improve public access and reintroduce greenspace. Today, you can enjoy the 0.6-miles of gravel paths through the preserve, launch your kayak, or walk your dog. There is great birding here, too! Our resident great blue herons, turtles and kingfishers are thriving.
The pedestrian bridge across the Milwaukee River allows for easy access to neighborhoods, restaurants and businesses on the East Side. Access miles of footpaths and asphalt trail on both sides of the river, including the Beerline and Oak Leaf trails, and County parks such as Caesar’s, Riverside and Gordon.
There is NO HUNTING allowed on the preserve.
Park along N. Riverboat Rd. to access the preserve or enter from the Beerline or East Bank trails.
