The Westabrook Trail is a 1.3-mile trail within the Milwaukee River Greenway located on the west bank of the Milwaukee River, across the river from Estabrook Park (hence the name “Westabrook”) and runs from Capitol Drive to Port Washington Rd., adjacent to where the Estabrook Dam was removed in 2018. The trail runs through private property, and Restoring Lands holds a trail easement to keep the area publicly accessible. The trail connects to and creates a 3-mile loop along the riverfront from Port Washington Road and Hampton Avenue to Capitol Drive and Humboldt Boulevard.
Walking along the trail you’ll see native vegetation, bank stabilization, benches, overlooks and fishing platforms along a sustainable crushed gravel surface. Enjoy birdwatching (we’ve seen many great-horned owls!) and access to great fishing spots while you meander along the trail. There is a canoe/kayak portage just upstream of the Estabrook Falls. The “Blue Hole,” a water-filled quarry adjacent to a newly developed solid waste landfill site, offers unique habitat, and there is documented presence of dragonflies and mussels.
To visit, you may park on the east side of the Holiday Inn parking lot or walk north from the Greenway trails south of Capitol Drive. As of May 1, 2026, you will need to enter the Holiday Inn and ask for a parking pass at the front desk. Parking passes are free; they are actively towing cars out of the lot without a pass. There is also an access trail at the end of Richards St. off of Capitol Drive.
There is NO HUNTING allowed at Westabrook Trail.
